You can get a decent laptop for a good price at Dell..Check it out..As for someone dropping it..A laptop is not something you just throw around, and definitely is'nt for children to be messing with. I guess the question now is are you responsible enough to take care of a laptop to call it your own?
good luck with finding your laptop. And by the way, 80 gigs of memory is more than plenty of enough memory, and you can find low prices at Dell on 80 gig laptops..Check it out at dell.com .

Princess: A neighbor of mine has a Dell XPS 1210. The screen is small, 12. inch and glossy and has a full sized keyboard. To be honest with you, this Dell notebook is the sweetest little notebook I've seen around. The little attractive blue lights and the shiny silver looking that blends with black really sets off this notebook. It is roughly on sale now. $1,199.
It has everything built in, such as webcam, microphone etc. I would suggest you to order it, and if you don't like it, just return it back to Dell for a full refund. It only weighs 4 pounds compared to mine that weighs 8 pounds.
It also support a powerful graphic card fron Nvidia. Like I said though, give it a try. I guarantee you'll love this notebook.
I am going to buy one for my daughter.

The best quality laptop under $1500 is the Dell Inspiron E1505. It starts at around $700 and has been rated Editor's Choice at PC Magazine.com. I'm actually looking forward to buying one. My friends have it and they all approve of its price and usefulness. It comes with all the features you'll need for basic computing as well as low-level gaming.

www.dell.com under notebooks/laptops, select small business. you get extra discounted prices even without having a business. dell creates shock designs on the corners of their laptops due to people traveling a lot with them. also, dell allows you to customize your laptop. 14.1" screens are most affordable when trying to be compact. amd processor runs single programs faster, but for person going to school, intel is best for multi-tasking. 1 gb ram (memory) is enough, although some people prefer 2 gb in case they run photoshop or a large program. glossy screens look nicer, but also give off more glare when in a lot of light. as for harddrive size, 60-80 gb is plenty. this should cost you around $800 rough estimate
