It's not quite as dressy as "black tie." So for a woman it is NOT a long dress. And for a guy, the only rule is a black suit. Shirt and tie are up to him.

Black tie is formal attire. You want to dress up for the event.

i would do a black blazer. make it chic with jeans and a dress shirt. :] always looks nice.
