How would you describe state of thoughtfulness? ~~~ A moment where 'thoughts' are being perceived, rather than, say, apples. Is it an act of meditation? ~~~ Exactly the opposite. Traditional Zen meditation is a state where no 'thoughts' are being perceived. Is it a state of contemplation? ~~~ It could be. There are various definitions of 'contemplation', from 'thoughtless observation (Zen)' to 'thoughtful cogitation'! Would you say feeling worried or concerned is being thoughtful? ~~~ I'd say that 'feeling' something, is a state where you are perceiving 'feelings'. 'Worry' and 'concern' are 'thoughts' (to which 'feelings' might well be related). We do not open our eyes and see a 'worry'. We 'think' that something is not sufficient (egoically/thoughtfully 'judge' by whayever standards we are using), or 'wrong'. There is no 'concern' in a Zen state; what is, is, always. Reality is 'perfect' as it is, every moment, whether we are 'comfortable' with it or not.

either that or Californian.
That is a State of mind in the same sense Billy Joel called New York a State or mind only it is more laid back and theatrical and with better scenery and weather.
