Too much of anything is no good. There are no nutrients in Cow's milk that can't be found elsewhere. I would never worry about someone who wasn't drinking cow's milk. People used to think it was the healthiest thing, now they're all thinking otherwise ( http://www.notmilk.com )
Milk is made for cows, not humans. A lot of people think it's gross, maybe she's one of them.
Soybeans aren't naturally high in calcium, so I'd want to make sure she had alternate calcium sources in her diet- unless maybe they're fortifying the soymilk- do they do that?
I happen to drink a ton of milk, and think soymilk is so gross, but I do understand why people avoid it, it's like the #1 food allergen, isn't it?
Your concern is sweet, it was nice of you to try and find the answer without pestering her over it:-)

There is nothing wrong with soymilk while pregnant or breastfeeding (although some babies will get a little gassy, although some do when a mother is drinking cows milk)

Soy affects hormones....I know because we were giving my granddaughter soy milk because of allergies, and discovered her breast glands started to develop....all because of the soy.
I wouldn't do it....and I would also drink milk without hormones, etc. added to it. Get good organic type of milk (it will say what the cows are fed on the carton).

Soy milk is probably better for you than regular milk because it doesn't have the added growth hormone they give to cows to produce more milk so i would say it's better it has a lot of great benefits for your health it's really excellent for you but that's just my opinion! =o)

Whatever the reason she can't take cows milk she is doing the right thing by taking in some calcium still. She is taking care of herself & bub.

Soy milk usually has calcium and other vitamins (D, A, Bs) so it is just as healthy if not better than regular milk.

as a pregnant woman she should be taking on about 65 grams of protein a day. as long as she gets that (complete proteins that is) and balances it out she should do just fine. I'm an octo-lavo vegetarian and have an 8 1/2 mo that I'm breastfeeding. he's as healthy as an ox!

I would be concerned about the phytoestrogens with soy milk. Do some research from credible sources, and she could speak with her doctor or a nutritionist.

The calcium is there, the protein is there, the hormones are not there...it could actually be better for the grandbaby on the way.
