I have bought many things off of ebay and never had a problem.
If you don't get what you pay for , there is a place to report it to ebay and they supposedly will look into it for you.
I bought my wife an entire collection of Fostoria Green Coinware, one piece at a time and several signed posters for my daughter, as well as a couple cell phones. Never a problem in the slightest.

Always got what I paid for.
first rule read the entire description
second don't forget to check how much shipping is ($50 is a great price for a 17inch lcd monitor but not if you have to pay $100 shipping and handling
I suggest signing up for pay-pal they have insurance to make sure you don't get ripped off and it's free. Also there are some sellers that won't sell to you if you don't use it.
Check feedback don't just look at the numbers read the negative feedback that the seller has. Most negatives I have seen are actually the fault of the buyer not reading the description or assuming something is what it is not. You can usually ask the seller a question about the item.
I have been buying from ebay for four years and recommend it to everyone. All my major and recreational purchases come from ebay and most gifts too.
Good luck and happy bidding

Never been ripped off, always got my goods and they were better than expected. You do have a recourse, eBay will dispute for you if you can't settle it with your seller. Use common sense, insure the item if it is valueable and deal with the top sellers or eBay stores. I got a brand new in box axe worth $330 for $75. Friend ordered another from same dealer, got it insured and it arrived damaged. Seller replaced it within a week because it was a delivery service fault, but insured and the carrier (UPS) made good on the insurance as had been dropped and damaged during shipping.
Look up and read the feedbacks and go with the most reputable ones and you will get some astounding bargains and unique items.

yes i paid for a dvd they said was new and good, but it was crap, never did get my money back.

but other than that one time. never had a problem. and i have bought a ton of stuff off ebay, heck my keyboard I'm typing on came off ebay.

you just have to trust that the people are honest and not gonna steal you money and not send the item.

one main thing to look at b4 you buy anything is feedback, if they have too many bad feedback, they may not be that reliable, but not always the case.

if you do get ripped off, you can make a claim to ebay and possibly get you money back. enough people do that to a seller or buyer they will get suspended

First of all~~its not E-Bay that rips you off! Its the people who sell things on E-bay!
1. Always look to see the persons history~~if someone has below a !00% satisfaction rate~~read up on why?

2. Always ask questions! I once bought a pillow that said it was "CUSTOM" made! Found out custom is E-bayism for
"HOMEMADE"! Also the picture shown on the ad showed the pillow with purple cording around the seams~~the one I got was gold~~not a big difference but made me mad! So always e-mail and ask even the stupidest questions! Then you have it in writing and at least you can sue them if they pull a "bait and switch"!

3. Once tried to buy concert tickets to a concert! This particular band says on their website they do not accept 2nd party tickets! In other words~~they don't want their tickets scalped! E-mail the seller and asked him if he could guarantee that they would be accepted at the door and if he could send me a picture of the ticket so I could compare it to my other 2 tickets to ensure authenticity! (I needed more tickets for friends) He refused to take the picture and said he would not guarantee anything. Needless to say~~I didn't even bother to bid!

4. When bidding~~wait until the last 10 minutes before auction is over to bid on item! Have had people do this to me and sneak in and get the item! If you bid earlier~~people will counter bid and drive the price up! if you wait you can probably get it for a lot less!

No. I have bought and sold there. You do have to watch the ratings. I try to buy only from people that have sold at least 50 things and have 100% positive ratings. Do be careful...never buy from someone new to eBay, and never buy from someone with an even slightly low rating. People are loathe to give bad ratings, so if they have ANY bad ratings, I would be very wary.

Read the descriptions carefully, check also if it is a new or used item. Always check how much shipping costs are. If you do these things, you should be fine.

Well you never know if you are going to get it and if you do if it is good quality. I haven't been ripped off but I know people who have. They have these little things next to their names like a PA or something and this means that they are a quality seller and Ebay would suggest you buying off them so you don't get ripped off.

It's a crime and you can go to jail. What kind of asshat are you that you think it's okay to steal from people? You are disgusting. It's not just bad karma, it's a crime. I hope you do a lot of time in jail. Let the buyer beware only refers to the quality of the merchandise, not the fact that you are some sort of jerk thief. Tell your mommy, I'm sure she will be proud that you want to steal $500 from someone. (Which could be a felony where you are, so kiss mommy goodbye for a long time and good luck getting a job.)

I've never been ripped off. If you are ripped off all you can do is report them and leave negative feedback. If the item was a bit more expensive you can take them to small claims court.

yes I was ripped of a few years ago. Luckily It was for something that wasn't very expensive.

I blame myself. I was too relaxed with the seller, and didn't file a complaint soon enough. I tried to be nice and gave them too much time.

NOW i know better. I go by ebay guidelines TO THE DAY. Screw waiting on people and being nice. I file my complaints the second I'm allowed to.
