i'm looking to leave my current job, and really want out of it asap...however, i'm scared stiff of giving a notice without having another job to fall back on. is it as scary and/or irresponsible as it sounds?

if you have some $$ in the bank, quit now.
If not, you will need to get another job while you are still making a living at the crappy job. sorry

find another job before you leave your current one because you may be unemployed for a very long time and have no money etc. If you want out of your job asap put a lot of energy into finding something new , take anything at first and than move on to better things from there.

You might have a justified reason to leave your current job, falling short of plans to find a new employer. It seems to me that you have a feeling of confidence in your abilities and the fact you were hired and maintained by your current employer means you are doing a fine job.

I don't know your age but I know younger people usually look for greener pastures. Review your options and hope you will fine a good job. Good Luck.

If you have responsibilities to take care of, of course you're going to feel anxious about quitting. It is irresponsible to quit a job without a back up if you have responsibilities to take care of...

otherwise, screw it.

stay at your current job while you are looking. Just that fact that you are actively looking for a way out will make being at your current job more bearable.

Don't do it unless you don't have any bills to pay. What happens if you don't get a job as soon as expected?

it depends upon your financial situation. if you are broke, dont quit until you have something else lined up. give them 2 weeks notice, its the right way to do things.
