We have had a goldfish, named Bugs, for about 6 or 7 years and just bought another goldfish, named Sparks. Bugs is pretty large. Sparks is not quite as big. But I noticed red marks on Bugs. It seems that Sparks may be nipping at Bugs. But then at other times they are sitting peacefuly next to each other. What is going on. I do not want Bugs to be in pain. Bugs is looking really slow and a little down. Should I just take the other fish out?

Red marks on the goldfish may indicate illness. Go to a pet store that sells EM tablets or powder made by Aquarium Pharmaceutical. It sounds more like the goldfish has a hemorrhage/ bacterial infection. If a fish is sick, other fish will bother it.

If you're after keeping Bugs for 6-7 years and it seems fine until Sparks come in, then the obvious reason for the red marks must be due to the introduction of Sparks into the tank.

Layman's term:
Bugs perfectly fine for 6-7years
New fish comes in
Bugs gets red spots

It's plain and simple, Sparks is the cause.

It'll be a waste if the new goldfish causes ill effects to Bugs, who, has been around for quite some time. It's just not worth the risk. Take out the new fish and seperate it before the condition worsens.

Your fish is eating your other fish one bite at a time. Remove the other fish. And for your bully fish I have a fish for him! His name is Jaws and he has his own 150 gallon tank. And he will eat any other fish put with him. One bite at a time.

It can be a fighting fish. Separate them. My sis had them, they were VERY aggressive
