1. Why do scientists consider the following statement to be accurate although it may not appear to be true:

Nutrients are not really inside the body until they have passed through the wall of the small intestine.

2. Persons suffering from severe diarrhea may become dehydrated. Why does this happen?

Thank you to anyone who is willing to help.

1. The alimentary canal is rather like a tube inside our bodies. If you trace the curve of your cheek on your face and follow along to your mouth and continue inside the mouth, you'll notice that the outside of your face is continuous with the inside of your mouth. The inside of your mouth is continuous with the inside of the esophagus, stomach, small intestine, and large intestine. So nutrients are still in this inner/outer zone until they are absorbed into our cells or into the capillaries.
2. Diarrhea can dehydrate someone pretty quickly. The large intestine is responsible for absorbing water from the undigested food. In the case of diarrhea, the contents of the intestine pass through the body so quickly that the body cannot absorb the water.

of course, nutrients came from food and when food is digested, complex molecules such are carbohydrates, lipids, and proteins are broken down into their basic components of monosaccharides, fatty acids, and amino acids, respectively. These basic building blocks will be utilized again by the body to build larger molecules that is use by the body for growth and for other physiological processes. But before they enter the blood, these should be first absorbed by the body through the intestines specifically the small one. Part of the small intestine is responsible for final digestion while other portions are responsible for absorption nutients as you said. Large intestine, however, is responsible for the absorption of water in the digested food.

1. Your entire digestive tract from mouth to rectum is actually outside your body in the sense that something is only inside by passing thru the wall of the small intestine.2. People become dehydrated because they lose so much fluid thru diarrhea that is normally reabsorbed into the body before a stool is passed out. Hope this helps.

1.) Scientists most likely belive that because the small intestine is where your body absorbs all of the nutrients.

2.) That may happen because your fecus is more water that waste because the fiber is "shoving" it out fast, and the water can't be absorbed.

although the nutrients are physically within the body, they can't be utilized untill they are absorbed.
