Actually, people do say that they "Yahood!" it, etc. - if that is what they did. But these types of words appear all the while. Not so much a new term as a new verb. Nouns becoming verbs. For example, "Hoovering".
As for the term itself, it's by no means new. It's been around for years (albeit with a different spelling):
"The American mathematician Edward Kasner once asked his nine-year old nephew to invent a name for an extremely large number - ten to the power one hundred (10¹⁰⁰), a one followed by a hundred zeros. The boy called it a googol."
An incomprehensibly large number.
"By comparison, the total number of atoms in your body is about 10²⁸, and the total number of elementary particles … in the observable universe is about 10⁸⁰. If the universe were packed solid with neutrons, say, so that there was no empty space anywhere, there would still be only about 10¹²⁸ particles in it, quite a bit more than a googol but trivially small compared to a googolplex." [Googolplex = ten to the power of a googol - or, a one with a googol zeros after it!]
But you are correct, like many well-known nouns, "google" has become a verb.

For one thing, Yahoo is usually thought of as mail first, searching second (or third or fourth or eighth). Yahoo has so many branches: weather and news, for example.
Google was, at first, all about searching, and even though Google is so much more then a search engine now, its primary purpose is right there on the Google front page. The front page is practically an icon! It's just the logo, search box, two buttons, and miniscule text worked around the search box.
It also helps that Google is insanely popular and the founders can probably get press for any occasion whatsoever.

The first time I heard the word google it was a child's word for a ONE followed by one hundred zeros. The only place I could find that definition was in the biggest dictionary at the library. Now I suppose people say google it because it adds a little fun to their day while recommending an Internet search.

A good observation, I hadn't thought about it, but yes. Just like xeroxing something or using a kleenex. No one searches the web, they just google it. I'm gonna give you a star for this question.
