I think it's because all of the new rock sounds the same. You can't tell who's singing because they all seem to write their music off the other guy. I can't ever tell the difference between Daughtry or Three Days Grace or Nickelback, they all sound the same! All of them, except Papa Roach. I feel your pain! The classic is classic for a reason, it's good.

I hate the alternative crap.. Im more into classic or Metal. I like Metal from nowadays because it has some of the best guitar riffs you can find. The alternative stuff is just all about pain and killing yourself lol.

EDIT: And for that person who said U2 a couple posts up..Sorry to break it to you but they classic. The stuff they coming out with now cant compare to their older stuff. Go back and listen to New Years day and Bloody Sunday. That is when U2 was at their best.

I think it's because the musicians in the "classic" rock groups were actually trained in classical music! They didn't grow up listening to rock music because it didn't exist. Plus, they used more instruments than just a bass, 2 guitars, and a drum kit. They even used real string sections.
But I really like OK, GO! and Arcade Fire as far as new music goes. And I'm REALLY old...42!! (ha ha..) (But Electric Light Orchestra is still my all time fav)

I'm exactly the same way. I'm 19, and I feel like I should've been 19 in the 60's. I'm mostly annoyed with the new stuff. It lacks talent and heart. Plus, it is just targeted to become corporate instead of just being played for the love of music. You're not weird at all! You just have good taste in music. :)

Great to know there is someone out there like me...that can't get into the new music.

okay, you're not weird, in fact you're kinda right. there aren't a lot of music nowadays that are really good like the 70s-90s.
which bands do you find annoying? bloc party is REALLY annoying to me. but many other bands arent as bad. to name a few: avenged sevenfold, black label society, etc.

if you cant get into new stuff, that's ok. music doesn't force you; if you dont like it, you can always just walk away. don't be like posers in the net that says bad things about the bands they dont like (except bloc party. they really dont make good music!).

classic rock are more everlasting anyway. you can still find good classic rock records anywhere.

so, the choice is always yours. you must be proud that you listen to a lot of quality classic rock that even bands nowadays look up to be. they're the pioneers, and everyone should look up to them with the same vision: respect.

Becasue it wasnt about the money back then, it was about the music. Now the record labels all want lotsa money so they force artists to come out with, pretty much 1 cd a year, they dont have time for perfection. So what you get is a cd with 2 good songs and the rest are garbage.

I kind of understand. Classic rock was more about guitars with accompanying vocals. Now rock if more vocals with accompanying guitars.

Personally I like both styles, but if you want a mixture of both, try some recently made Metal.

Several examples are; Slipknot, Saliva, Korn, etc.

I have to say I agree with you somewhat, but there are good bands out there but they just don't get played on the Radio or MTV because they don't fit into a genre that is marketable. Take the British band Threshold and Dream Theater they are awesome bands but not what gets played. Just keep looking and you will find bands that are worth listening to but just not on the radio.

I do agree that the older rock like Boston, Aerosmith, Styx were about the music, about giving to their fans what they knew we wanted to hear..great music. The bands of today, are more about selling and how many albums they can get under their belt..lol remember how long it took Def Lep to come out w/a new cd..4 yrs wasn't it??? Don't get me wrong, some bands of today I love..Staind, Nickelback, Linkin Park but their music to me couldn't compare of the bands I grew up listening to and loving. Chad Kroeger may have a killer voice but he'll never be like Brad Delp or Steven Tyler...noone can compare to what real rock is all about.

You are listening to pop rock.
Try Actionslacks, Poets of the Fall, The Forty Fives, The Mooney Suzuki, Jet, The D4, Kissing Tigers, Red Delicious, Boss Hog, Jon Spencer's Blues Explosion, Kelly's Lot and Southern Backtones' CD Los Tormentos De Amor.

I'm going to be looking at The Hiss, +44 and Fastball too.
