So many reasons, a key one being the difference in social networks that men have versus women. While women usually have a large social network of friends and family, men usually have a limited social network. In times of stress women are inclined to talk about their problems, and give and receive advice. Men on the other hand tend to keep their problems inside. Emotional well-being is definitely a part of living a long and healthy life. Another key reason, going along with women being more inclined to talk about their problems and ask for help or advice, is that women go to the doctor more than men. While on the surface this may look like women are sick more frequently than men, in actuality men are more likely to suffer from chronic problems as a result of not catching problems early.

Many reasons. First off, men tend to die violently more often than women do. Guys get murdered more often and they get into accidents more often, both in cars and just in general. There's a reason women tend to get lower car insurance rates than men. And men are more likely to suffer from genetic diseases. Since women have two X chromosomes, if one of the genes on it doesn't work, we can just use the other one. Men don't have that built-in repetition, so they just get the disease.

Guys are also more susceptible to successful suicide (women have a greater tendency to do the "cry for help" types that are usually survivable). Men are more likely to have heart disease or strokes because of higher testosterone levels. Men smoke more and are more likely to become alcoholics.

Jeez, with all this, it's amazing guys manage to last a day! Actually, though, back in the day, men had a longer lifespan because childbirth caused so many deaths.

One word.

Testosterone

Testosterone levels are much higher in men than in women, but testosterone has also been shown to increase the breakdown of DNA which causes aging. It is because of this that women have longer life spans than men - and they always will.

Who does the child-rearing. Women.
So children of a long lived woman has a better chance of survival than those of a short lived woman and so her gene has a better chance of spreading.

The men are out in the world making a living with lots of stress. A real killer. But as more women do that the difference in life expectancy is shrinking. ~

men are more likely to have jobs that are dangerous or hazardous to their health. by just "doing their job," injury or death can result for soldiers, hazmat people, chemical applicators, firefighters, law enforcement, and others. the vast majority of people filling these kinds of jobs are men.
