Venus is the second brightest thing in the night time sky, with the moon being the first.
I'm not sure if it is just this time of year, or if it is in some other rotational pattern... I tried to find you a link... anyway, there was a "star party" at our local planetarium last night focusing on Venus and its high visibility (right now.)
It's beautiful. I've seen the blinking too and believe it is just light reflections in a different spectrum, or my eyes are freaking out because I've stared at it too long ;) don't worry, there aren't any aliens flipping the switch on Venus, lol.
Hope you have a clear view where you are with not too many distracting city lights.
The skies are amazing right now. ENJOY :)

venus is the brightest thing in the sky right after the moon and sun. if you look to the south east, youll see jupiter too, its almost as bright as venus but not quiet. when ever you see something blinking, its usually because it is low in the sky if you look at all the stars that are around the same hieght, they should all be blinking too. its just an atmospheric effect. i hope this helped!!!!!

That's happened once a month or more for several months. Funny how it seems people only look up once a month or so. And can't be bothered to look at the front page of the questions in astronomy to notice that half the questions were the same one they just asked.

Venus is the brightest planet I can see tonight (and usually is always). Pale orange color, atomospheric conditions.

I don't know about the blinking, but that is indeed Venus.
