When it comes to ones health then I*d have to ask...WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?
I wouldn*t keep a doctor that I couldn*t understand the language spoken because of an accent. My health is my life..and when making detrimental decisions concerning such I want to be 100% positive that I understand the diagnosis, treatment, etc....so I don*t consider it racist.

I have the same problem with my new ob/gyn. I'm 8 months pregnant & all I've understood from her so far is that I didn't look good--I was so dizzy I almost passed out and she said"you no look good".I think if you can't understand your doctor enough to conversate with them, you can't be getting the best care. I don't think it would be racist to change doctors.

Don't worry it is just a communication problem... Racism is no question in your circumstance, and I wouldn't give it a second thought. If you care, you must be a nice person, who cares for others. So seeing that you are sincere, and careful, I know that if you worry about being racist, that you didn't mean to be and therefore are not, and will not be seen as racist.

Nope. You should feel comfortable with your doctor and if you can't understand what she is saying to you, how could you be? That doesn't make you a racist. Not by a long shot!

Some people WOULD consider this racist. I would not. I avoided taking graduate level math classes with professors whose English I could not understand, and some people felt I was racist.

You must be comfortable with your doctor. You are not a racist for wanting to understand your doctor. Change and don't feel guilty.

of course not. i don't blame you for thinking of changing doctors, because at some stage we will all be facing a doctor who can hardly speak english. this is not about racism. this about being able to be comfortable with and getting understanding from a good reliable doctor who can communicate properly. i am sure everyone else would agree wtih me on this one.

No, not at all. I understand where you are coming from. I would have too. I dislike it very much when someone hold's a position in which they deal with people and have such a heavy accent that I cant understand a word they are saying. Its not their fault, however thats my opinion. And its my choice to choose someone whom I can understand!

No, you wouldn't be racist. However, you could be more honest with her. My daughter's pediatrician was hard to understand too, but I would ask her to explain if I didn't understand something. Also, my OBGYN was the same way. If I didn't understand I would ask.
