Name something about your country/people you are ashamed of.
I'm ashamed that most people think we're (Portuguese people) unclassy, of low class and immoral. I swear, as silly as it sounds, some people actually tell me I am very classy and they didn't expect it because they didn't see Portuguese people as classy people. And I don't fully blame them, a lot of Portuguese people here are just... horrible representations, and are promiscuous and immoral. Where I come from they aren't like that but it seems like the immigrants from there represent us that way sometimes and a lot of people in Portugal itself are just unclassy, a lot of teens.. it's really sad, and it's a bad representation for those of us who ARENT like that. And the fact that no one assumes we're intelligent or educated. My father was a surgeon and my mother is a surgeon, my sister is in medical school and my older brother is a psychiatrist in the making...

Rhonda... I see you aren't ashamed of your own people, and like to lash out at others?
I am very ashamed of Portugal's slavery history, I completely forgot to mention that, but I guess I was talking about RECENT things. Overall, the slavery thing is BY FAR the worst thing, but now we are living peacefully with black people in Portugal, all of whom call themselves Portuguese. We do not hate them and they do not hate us, in fact, we are one country that is very accepting to all colours.
Thanks so much for that comment by the way. I hope a black person comes on here and says "I am ashamed of people like Rhonda".
By the way, look at Brasil.. blacks, Portuguese, Italians, Germans..etc all mixed in a country, all getting along well, all due to slavery and immigration and look now, people all want to be from Brasil.

No, I change my answer. I am ashamed of people like Rhonda. Lord knows we got plenty of them in America. The world would be a better place without them. Take a look at her questions in her profile. She uses the word 'cracker' more times then anyone I have seen. Very racist and narrow-minded. I'm not just ashamed of people like her, but also embarrassed.

I don't believe in feeling ashamed of something I did not do - this is useless...I know there are horrible things that have happened here and that are happening...and that there are ignorant hateful people like rhonda..that is her problem I certainly didn't create her...those are her choices (she really has made herself a convenient example)...
everytime I come on YA I see some really horrible racist questions and remarks - however if I wait long enough I see a lot of people fighting racism...and that makes me feel good...

I've been to Portugal, and it is a beautiful country with friendly people. If Rhonda is from my country, then it's people like her that I am ashamed of.

I am ashamed that their are people out there who fit the black stereotype down to the very last sentece.
Loud, Ignorant, Impulsive, Law Breaking, ill-mannered...ect...
I'd go on but I just can't, i love my people too much.

Americans are too freakin arrogant and ethnocentric. I hated it when people kept lashing out at the French. Look, now 50% of us don't approve of the Iraq War, and we wanted the French to help us? What the heck is that? They have less poverty, free college and healthcare, less crime, etc. We should learn a lesson from them.
