For some reason I cannot play StarCraft with my DSL connection. And the only thing that I can think of is it's the ports are not operating properly or something to that effect. So I would like to ask how can I fix this problem? How would I go about getting a program (that is safe) that I can use to get my ports open?

I have called both the DSL help connection on top of my modem and the telephone company that my Internet connection is through and also Microsoft and they all gave me the same answer. I really want to play Starcraft but because of my DSL connection I cannot. It is really laggy when I play (if you know what that means) and when I join a game it takes forever for download to start when I go to download a map for the game I want to play on Starcraft. So, if you could give me some idea of what I should do I would be really thankful.

And I do not use a router. It doesn't play like this on Warcraft (uses the same port to play with.)

do you use a router? if you do you need to enable port forwarding. check your router company's website for info on that.
also check what port the game uses.

make sure your not running a firewall of some sort (even windows internal firewall -it sucks-)

here's blizzard help,

I'm sure port forwarding is your answer

------------after edits,

I'm stumped after all that. It doesnt make sense to me (I understand lagging) but don't understand why it would be different between the two progs

maybe its a memory issue. possibly a dsl issue. I hear upload speed can be slow and bugy with dsl. it would depend how much data SC is pushing to the server

how about an updated patch

maybe even reinstalling the game would help

Norton internet security

(about 40 bucks)
but this isn't a homemade thing. Its a real business app.

We own this and it helps a lot with certain game prog.
There is a whole section where you can add, lock, block ports, and address.

(Get 2006 v though, 2007 is slow!)
