African Cichlids in their natural habitat, live amongst rocks and use them for protection. It is very normal for them to hide especially if they are new to a tank or they are juvenile. They will get more brave as you feed them and they become familiar with you providing them food every day. Soon you should see them come out from hiding in anticipation of getting some food.

Yup...all fish (with the exception of crackhead danios..haha) tend to be shy when first introduced to a new environment. Cichlids are noted for taking time to acclimate. Some of the SA cichlids are the worst! My blood parrot took over 2 months!

They'll be a little freaked from the transportation, the water change, the decor change and the new surroundings. They'll get over it soon enough. Normally a couple of days for tropical fish but cichlids are a little more sensitive to change. Give them a couple of weeks and they'll be acting like they own the joint :)

Its normal for any fish to get a nervous during their first few days in a new aquarium. Im sure thell be fine within no time and be excellent pets.

Sounds like normal behavior to me. There are so few food sources in the Rift Lakes that any thing that's bite sized is food. They will become more active as they approach adulthood. Right now their instincts tell them to lay low.
