The Federal government is of course the superior government of the land. Its responsibilty to each state is the same, to provide for a common defense (military) and to regulate and provide for commerce (business and trading). The federal government also serves to settle disputes between the states and to provide law that guides the states actions (supreme court). I hope that helps a little.

Schools in the mid-West are outstanding, but many students move to stronger economic regions upon graduation. Regions like the Pacific Northwest are benefiting from those schools.

The federal government has a role in leading these economies toward "green" industries, as do the state governments.

Start with a reading of the Declaration of Independance and the US Costitution, especially Amendment 10.

The US Federal Government is responsible for overseeing all trade between states, and between the various states and foriegn nations. (State Governors who travel to other coutries to build ties between their state and the foreign nation violates the US responsibilities on these points)

The US is resposible to the people to insure that the PEOPLE's rights are not usurped or infringed, and to preserve the US Constitution at all time.

The US Federal Government is resposible for National Security including fighting any overseas fight to keep this country free from threats, As per the 2nd amend, the US and State governments are to keep the american people well prepaired to defend our nation at Home, our military is not the primary homeland defence group at all.
