Now, don't get me wrong, I'm a die hard Lions fan (I know, I know it's sad) but when Jon Kitna told the press that he believes the Lion's could go 10-6 next season I nearly fell of the chair! To make matter worse backup QB Dan Orlovski, not to be outdone, said that he could see the Lion's in the Super Bowl!

Am I missing something here or has these guy's lost their minds?

Which QB would you rather have? The guy who says that his club will go 3-14, or the guy who says he believes that his club can go 10-6 and make the playoffs?

You can't win without having the mentatilly to win first, even if you make boldly optimistic statements that sometimes makes you look crazy. Those kinds of statements also serve notice to other teams around the league, it kind of says "Hey, I know we have the reputation of being a losing franchise, but I don't plan on allow my offense to just lay down and die when we are on the feild."

Now I agree that the Lions still need a lot of work, like a good solid defense, a running game among other things, etc before they have a realistic shot at the playoffs. But you can't see the playoffs if you keep your head in the sand by accepting losing.

Nothing against these guys, but what every team needs is a boost of motivation. Don't forget some teams can turn it around in just one year. Who knows if yet another first round wr can help them out. But what you don't want in a team is a guy saying that his team sucks. Besides the lions don't exactly play in one of the best divisions in the league. In this division, what they fail to realise is not passing the ball is good enough to win, the Packers have proven that. In the NFC North, if you can run the ball on hold onto it, you win. The Lions had too many fumbles (5 by Jones and 9 by Kitna) without Dre Bly this year, they better be even better if they think they can go to the playoffs. 8 games was all the Giants needed to get in, so they better think of something. Confidence is a start.

I'm not a lions fan, so this is more about Jon Kitna.

Personally, I love that he's a christian and that he's so open about it. We need more of that in society, not less.

He's a shitty QB and has no business playing, period. The guy above me has it right, Let's go Pats, you rule!!!

Maybe he's been sacked so many times he has suffered brain damage...just kidding

I seriosuly don't want a QB that say's "I guess we might...um...well we got some guy named Foster...and...um I hope I don't get sacked...I think...um....maybe 2-14, Im not sure?"

C'Mon, he's thinking positive and the Lions CAN suprise people if they shape up on offense and defense. Ernie seems to be doing good and Kitna is good but needs protection (not that kind but the O-Line u see)

No point in playing if you're not optimistic..

That's typical of Orlovski though. I met him and have a few autographs.. I want to see him play more.

The Lions DO underachieve lately. Especially in a garbage division/conference.

What do you want them to say?
"yeah, we are going to suck, maybe win 5 games."???
If I was a coach, I would be saying, and I better hear my players saying that we would go undefeated. If my quarterback said we would go 10-6, I'd put my boot in his butt and tell him I better not hear that crap again.
The object is to win, every single game, your goal is to win.
A player's goal going into a season should be to go 16-0.
If they lose a game, the new goal should be 15-1.
Lose a 2nd game, new goal should be 14-2. and so on.
How do you motivate as a leader if you go into a season saying your going to be a loser????

Oh yeah, it's the Lions, the same ones that don't want the coaches to work them too hard in the off season.
Guess your right.

Would you prefer having your starting QB saying " Yeah, I'm looking forward to playing on this 4-12 team this year" ? C'mon, you know and I know, and Kitna knows the real reason, its called PR.

It is not the offense that is lacking. There D sucks and if they show up then yes they can do something. They have argueably the best wide receiver core in the league.
