why do libs favor legalization of drugs?

Keep the population drugged up--then they won't see how badly we're screwing them.

The only thing addicts care about is where their next fix is coming from.......they'd probably subsidize drug dealers as well just to keep them quiet until they overdose.

Libertarians, not liberals for the most part, want drugs legalized. Some people feel laws against some drugs do more harm than the drugs themselves.

If drugs are legalized, I hope they will be taxed pretty highly. Some of the taxes should be used for drug treatment programs and anti-drug programs. Maybe that way, at least those who want to get off drugs will have have more help in doing so.

I can't be sure if things will be better or worse though.

Actually that's Libertarians,like myself. I fail to see how we rationally decide that a drug like alcohol that is responsible for the deaths of at least 17000 deaths per year(that's just alcohol related traffic deaths) is legal,but marijuana is not. And it becomes very clear that there is no rational reason for marijuana being illegal when the DEA lists it as being as dangerous as Heroin. In fact many of the drugs that doctors prescribe everyday for pain are hundreds of times more addictive than marijuana.

But I suppose it's better to continue to have the largest prison population on Earth,30% or more being non-violent drug offences,than to try to deal with the issue rationally. Nothing like giving someone a year in jail for $200 worth of pot,makes perfect sense to spend $50,000 dollars of tax money to make sure some guy doesn't get high,right?

Because illegal drug dealer's make a lot of money, and they want to take over their territory.

That is why they legalized gambling.

Insurance companies, who did they use to be?
Those who would say " pay up, or we will take your everything.
Like school yard bullies, that demand money or they will beat another child up.

Why should we be forced to pay monthly outlandish prices for things they claim WE NEED in order to be protected, but yet WILL NOT pass the bill to give money to our troops?

Not "just" libs, pal. Libertarians and some Republicans, too, like it or not.

First of all, people are going to use them in varying degrees, and trying to maintain some kind of "war" against them is just stupid and a huge expense.

Take a lesson from the Netherlands.

Haven't read up on it; however, I'm a Conservative and I favor legalization of mary jane and I'm a flower child.
