A doctor will definately advise an abortion but only if the patient or her fetus is at risk. In your case it was probable about twenty years or so ago and back then it wasnt common for older women to still be conceiving. so it was bad judgement on his part.

There are some doctors who have a real attitude against women with certain characteristics. This doc obviously didn't think much of women over 40 ALTHOUGH, before ultrasounds and amnio, it was impossible to tell if there were severe chromosomal abnormalities. They really only started these techniques in the late 70s and early 80s and they are nowhere near as advanced as today. Anyway, once birth control became common, society became very down on mothers over 40 having babies. It still is, but at least the docs are supportive.
Yes, doctors will still recommend abortion sometimes especially reduction with higher order multiples (the loss rate is huge), poor placental growth, mom's health. Always with an ectopic. However, I wouldn't consider getting one unless I got the additional testing that is now available today.

Yes they do! Sadly - your best bet is to find a doctor who doesn't practice or recommend abortions. - That way you should be safe. I know someone who had a hard pregnancy and the baby wasn't growing or gaining weight like he should, and the Dr. said the mother should abort him - she said NO WAY - he was tiny when he was born (and the mother was on bed rest during much of the pregnancy) - but her child was more important to her than her comfort - he was three pounds when he was born. Other than being TINY and had to stay in the hospital until he gained a couple of pounds - NOTHING was wrong with him! He is a beautiful and healthy seven month old - and YES some doctor thought he wasn't worth trying to save and recommended his mother kill him! - Sick thought isn't it? Give your mom a kiss and tell her thank-you for saving your life!

I am like 38/39 weeks preg, (Due June 4) and at I think 15 to 20 weeks they ASK if you want to get a Maternal Serum Screen 4 (Quad test) To check the baby for downs syndrome, neural tube defect and trisomy 18. Then they DID talk to me if I got the test, (Which I DID NOT) about aborting the baby if he/she has problems. I did not get the test cause I believe that no matter what its your baby and its wrong to get an abortion. So they do say you have the option, but my doctor never said its a good idea to abort. Hope this helps!

My doctor wanted me to abort my daughter she has a syndrome some doctors do think if the child is not totally perfect they they should abort but you should really think about that before having kids if you dont think you can hadle a child with problems and you dont like the idea of abortion maybe think of adopting! But remember just because they have somthing wrong dosent mean they wont be fine! my daughter is perfect and you never would know she has a syndrome now!

Severe medical conditions could cause a doctor to recommend abortions. If the mother or the child could be at a great risk, an abortion would be recommended. I am a severe asthmatic and my doctor recommended me not to have children.

Doctors suggest abortion if the mother would be at high risk to carry the baby to term. A doctor's #1 priority is keeping the pregnant woman alive. Also if the egg gets stuck in your tubes, you would need an abortion. Perhaps due to your mothers age and health it was unwise for her to have a baby.

Doctors will only do that if the mother is at risk. It may have had something to do with her age, but there are plenty of 40+ year-olds having children. Don't feel bad, your mom loved you enough to carry you to term and take care of your since you've been born. I guess you were meant to be!

it is scary when you thing about it,but there are times were doctors recommend abortions. my aunt actually has to abort my little cousin because the her life was in danger and there was a possibility that the baby was going to die because of breathing problems.

yes when the baby is dangering the physical welfare of the mother or if the baby is deformed badly in ways such as Down syndrome or spinalbifitus. the later fact is sad though. perfection is in the eyes of some thing higher and it isn't our right to play God.
