Venus -
Moon Phase Calendar

Mercury passes very near the thin crescent Moon on the 17th and is easy to see in fading western twilight during the last half of the month. Venus rises higher and becomes more dazzling in the western sky as it crosses from Taurus into Gemini. It has its own striking meeting with the Moon on the 19th, with Mercury a great distance below the pair. Saturn, sinking a bit lower, is still nicely visible in the southwest during the early evening hours. Jupiter, rising two hours earlier each month, pops up above the southeastern horizon by 11:00 p.m. at midmonth. The Moon hovers below it on the 31st.

Its the planet Venus. Its been that bright (and even brighter) for a few months (since about mid-January).
Every 8 years or so Venus's orbit and Earth's align in a way that makes it appear very bright and appear for hours after sunset (you can even see it in the daytime if you know where to look).

Isn't it beautiful? We saw it tonight too, having a cookout down by the Flint River in Georgia. I thought it was a star too. It looked so cool reflecting off the water.
