If you and your husband/b/f...were getting your kitchen renovated. Would you have the upper hand in how you would want your kitchen done!..I mean nearly 100% of our time is spent in kitchen etc.I have already told tradesmen what has to be done. Fiancee keeps changing plans on me. The only time he goes into the kitchen, is to get a beer out of the fridge. He wants cupboards and benches here and there, not thinking how the damn things will be utilised, its a very large kitchen. Your comments, before he turns my kitchen into a garage workshop! How do i get him out of the kitchen without hurting his feelings, I know he is trying to help out.

If you are the passionate cook in the house he should respect your space. If both cook then it is time for a compromise.

I see a big issues when I read your letter that has nothing to do with cabinets; it is with attitude. Why is this a female question? Why is he so concerned with the kitchen if he doesn't use it? Why are you two communicating with the tradesman behind each others back? I would look seriously into why you two are having control issues and put off renovation and marriage till you figure that out.

Other answers does not seem to be good solutions, as they sparks tension.

Maybe you can have a small outdoor bar.
If you use pinewood, they are very economically friendly and pretty durable. You may consider polish it with polishing paints, so the texture will not fade. Some polishing paints can add a reddish-dark colour to pines so they look like rose wood.

My employer has a little bar made of six planks and three steel supporting that connects to the window. It's very useful, you can have lunch and other foods on it as well as beer. That is, if the structure of your kitchen allows such design.

Or:

Have a bar that is mobile.
Then you wouldn't have to worry about having an extra cupboard or bench as it can be moved easily.

Hope that helps.

Go out to his car, workshop, "mans" room, whatever and rearrange everything to your liking. And keep doing it until he gets the message. Ask the contractor to add to the cost everytime he changes things (not really but for evasive action) . If my husband told me how to do the kitchen I would kick him in the butt. And tell him to get out or he can do ALL the future cooking and dishes.

Lady, you need a new guy a lot more than you need a kitchen renovation. At least tell him in no uncertain terms that the kitchen and decisions about it are yours.

Take him by your computer, show him this question that you have posted. If that's not sufficient start looking for another man.
