M.I.A. until it is *confirmed* that the enemy combatants have them, then it's P.O.W.

The media is stupid thats why they are calling them "kidnapped." Kidnapped insists that they were offered candy by some funny perverted man in a trashy van while they were on their tricycles.
No. Prisoner of War would be given to those obeying the Geneva Convention (or some form of military procedure) like an army or organized militia (which the terrorists are not, look up the definition in the Geneva Convention). Hostages, no. Hostage connotates that they are unarmed and defenseless. Also that they are being held for some leverage. They aren't. Captured is the most appropriate.
Also, I pray they come back, and I hope that they (pardon my French) f**k up the guys who captured them.

And Sky, yes there is a difference. We don't cut them into pieces and drag their torsoes through D.C.. The worst we do is play Kiss very loud and deprive them of sleep. After which they can go back to their cell and read their Quran. Our boys are lucky if they don't get beheaded. And melsposty, I hope your son comes back alright, tell him his country is ruting for him.

They aren't prisoners of war because the enemy doesn't follow the Geneva conventions and because of that (not wearing uniforms, etc.) are not covered by them. Therefore, they cannot take "prisoners of war".
They are hostages only if the enemy plans to ransom them for something. They don't. They use them for propaganda and behead them.
Captured? That would put the enemy on an even footing, which is not reasonable, as our soldiers are not fighting other soldiers, but criminals in the country of Iraq.

Victims is the correct word.
Kidnapped people aren't always kidnapped for something that they trade the kidnapped person for. Look at pedophiles who kill their victims.

Similar situation.

Applying the same "warped" terminologies introduced by the Bush administration, the terrorists/insurgents (enemy combatants) did Extra-ordinary Rendition (kidnapping/capture) on the American soldiers. And most probably, these soldiers had been put through Effective Interrogation Techniques or Extra-judicial Procedures (torture).

Prisoner of War applies only when they are being held by a recognized militia of a Government. Since they are being held by terrorist they have been kidnapped. Their treatment is at that will of a group that has no care for follwing law of war.

The insurgents are not legitimate soldier's of war. They're murderers, so legitimate terms for our men, and women who are captured by terrorists, are MIA's hostages, terrorized, and kidnapped. Ask a terrorist if they know what the Geneva Convention is, and they'll say, "Huh?, what is that?"

Target practice.

Honestly!

What do call the enemy when we have them as prisoners in our camps?

Weapons of Mass Torture!

Believe me, it boils down to it all just the same: We capture and torture them, they capture, torture, and kill us.

And on it goes.

Forever and ever. In a neverending cycle of who can one-up the other side.

What does it matter? They are our people and it is terribly sad. Some of the answers are sad also. What has happened to our people that is so bad that they take it out on our soldiers? Incredibly callous.

The left wing media will not give any credibility to this war they hate Bush and the war, unfortunately all it does is hurt our troops, God bless them & I hope they come home safe.
