Here's an easy way to figure it out for yourself: http://www.aquaticcommunity.com/converter/volume-calculator.php
Measure the inside of the tank for the most accurate way to know the volume.
ADDITION: it calculates as a little more than 47 gallons, but it's probably sold as a 55 gallon from the third measurement - a real 55 should be 48" x 13" x 20" (outside measurements)

I go with MM. Also once you have got the third measurment, Multiply the the dimensions [in feet].
Multiply this answer by 27 and divide by 4.5 to get the volume in gallons.
In litres, dont divide

do this: L x W x H. 48" x 12" x 19" = 10944. 10944 / 231 = 47.376623. so about 47.4 gallons
