i have liked my step cousin for a long time. and last year we started talking. but his mom and his step dad who happens to be my uncle found it wrong and started talking to us about it. because of that i never went out on dates with him when he asked me out. i was scared of what people thought. he stopped calling me and its been 2 months since we talked and he has a girlfriend now. but i realize that i still like him. i know he is happy with his girlfriend and now i dont know what to do. i know i messed things up and he might not want to talk to me anymore. should i just leave things like they are?

If you two are not blood related, then I don't see the problem. I understand why your parents and his parents might be a little uncomfortable, but if there's no blood relation...

You could try calling him to say hi, and if the subject of dating (or why you never went out with him when he asked) comes up, tell him why. Be open and honest. If he's interested, he'll ask you out again. If not, then back off and let him enjoy his girlfriend.

Keep your distance until he is single again, then jump his bones!
Just kidding, but seriously, I have a cousin who married his step-sister.
His dad and her mom married when my cousin was almost 30 and his wife was 26.
They never lived together as brother and sister, but technically are step-brother and sister and husband and wife.
There were a few family members that had a problem with it, but they got over it.
Even if they don't get over it, tell them to go piss up a rope!
Your family should be more concerned with your happiness then they are about their 2 cent opinions anyways!

As long as you aren't blood related, there is no real reason why you can't. However, expect your family to be uncomfortable and a little weirded out for awhile.

Cousins or not, if he's happy, you should let it be.
