I think people are insensitive because they are ignorant and don't know any better. The people that do know better are just mean or they want what is called negative attention. If you have been hurt by these people I hope you feel better and I hope you have a good rest of the day. Don't let the outer environment effect your inner environment. Just imagine that there is a big bubble around you and only nice words/comments can enter and get to you. :-)

It's really bad at night. That's when all the neo-nazi clones come out. The barage of hateful "questions" and large number of cloned personas help to detach people from each other. It also makes people a little over sensitive and assume a little good natured humor is some kind of attack. In the past I used to own a couple of Yahoo Clubs (groups) the only way to keep spam and other bad stuff out was to moderate the board. Problem with moderation is it discourages legitmate contributions. They became pointless to maintain so I deleted them myself. I hope the future is brighter for Yahoo Answers

Annonymity makes people bold and allows them to say things they may not necessarily say face to face. Some people speak out just to get a reaction and see if they can stir the pot. Still others are quite simply actually insensitive and could care less if they offend. Unfortunately it's one of the traps of online forums. You digest the good, spit out the bad, and take what you can get without allowing it to get to you.

I noticed that too. I cannot believe how many people will answer a heartfelt question (especially if it is not well written) with jeers, sneers and snide, sarcastic remarks. When the questioner is clearly looking for advice or is obviously frightened by something, it does not benefit them to be a recipient of such calloused and thoughtless treatment. It hurts me to see others behave so cruelly to another human being who is reaching out. It is a form of bullying that really requires addressing. I think we should appeal to the Answers Team about putting in a new abuse category for bullying.

The important thing to remember is for you not too be too sensitive.

Aierlys, a few answers up recommended calling a friend for a sensitive response. That's a good answer, because we are all here to make fun of you, dummy. I upped her with my thumb.

because they dont know the person they are talking to...there is no connection so they just look at it as a question and give their blunt opinions...and some try to get a rise out of people as well. Take it with a grain of salt :)

This is the internet. Everyone here hides behind the comfortable veil of annonymate (sp?).

Just don't take them seriously, they mean no harm. They are just bored and with nothing to do.

Because they are a faceless block of text. There is no accountability, so they will say things that they would never say to you in real life.

It's the internet - a forum of complete strangers who have nothing invested in making you feel better. If you want sympathy, call a friend.
