People do buy Subarus because of the safety, reliability and durability of the cars. It has one of the best AWD systems in the world.

People DO buy them, but 2006 was the first year Subaru produced even 200,000 vehicles. Chevy makes more Impala's alone than Subaru makes cars, so you don't see that many on the road most of the time.

Alot of it has to do with lack of advertising and dealer networking. I live in Orange County, california and there are only three Scooby Dealers here. There are two Honda Dealers in the city of Anaheim alone. There's about a dozen Honda dealers and about that many Toyota dealers as well. Until the Outback started the new Subaru image here in the U.S. Subaru didn't really advertise very much. You will somtetimes see two Toyota commercials durindg on e advertisement break.

Subaru is a bit of an unknown to most people. And even when you're around someone who does know of them, the only thing they think of is the Brat. It's a smaller car company which didn't really have any broad appeal in the States until the WRX came out. Heck, I followed the WRX for years through rally and the like before it came over, and I didn't have a clue what else they made. They don't heavily advertise, seeming to rely more on word of mouth, which works for them. Dealerships are fewer, so there's not one in every town, like GM, Ford, Honda, Toyota, etc., so a lot of people don't have the convenience of stopping in to try one if they are curious, which also keeps people out of them. Personally, I prefer it this way, as it's kind of like my little secret of what a great car I have.....

Just bought a 2005 Subaru Outback 2.5L Wagon i for a college student with 91,000 miles. What it needed in repair: New catalytic converter CA emissions (parts only from Subaru dealer $2500 without labor) Rear Axle bearings $160 parts only) after market, rear axle backing plates $190 parts only (sub dealer) timing belt change $900 subaru dealer, head gaskets $1600, Subaru dealer, Front CV joints $900 Subaru Dealer, Heater blower motor $130 parts only . Did new brakes/rotors/brake pads (Normal repair with any car) Without brakes that's about $6190 (not including labor for heater blower, rear bearings so add another $400 bucks. What car in the market today needs head gaskets, catalytic converter, front CV joints, rear bearings at 92,000 miles? Durable, reliable... are you kidding me? Add to it that their fasteners and bracket metal parts are rust magnets, these cars are total crap. Check the web and you'll see that these problems are consistent. Catalytic converter is a California emissions 3 cat converter with 5 sensors. My 2001 Lexus LS400 purchased used for $28,000 in 2004 Lexus LS430 has 216,000 miles on it with original rear axle bearings, catalytic converter, head gaskets, and CV joints. Total maintenance is half that of the Subaru and rarely in the shop plus it's 100 X the car. Subaru's are total crap! L. L. Bean Heads need to get a grip on reality.

Most people don't know about Subarus. Those who do either have one or can't afford one... and rarely they don't want one. If you think about it, not many people are car smart e.g. People won't buy a subaru because it's not american made.

But people DO! My brother and his wife have a Forester that they love AND, if I was working and/or in the market, I'd like to trade my wife's Volvo in for either an Outback or Forester, myself. AND, if I were younger, without kids, I'd even consider an WRX. In my opinion, Subaru's are under-rated, they seem to make decent, affordable cars, all are AWD, with safety features that come standard and would cost you that "arm and a leg", with other manufactures. I'm a fan, just don't have a job or the bucks to even consider one at the moment.............but THAT's my problem and another blog!

Although I feel positive about the Subaru, I don't buy them because it seems they are overpriced.
