It sounds like one of a few things here.... first check the temperature of the tank and be sure it's the right temperature for your kind of fish.

You may also have an ammonia poisoning from excess fish waste or if it's a new tank. Change about 1/2 of the water and it will help with that fairly quickly.

Make sure its getting enough light, The temp isn't to cold or to warm and make sure the water is clean but not overly clean. Those are the basics now you can give it frozen pea like some people have been saying or get special drops for sickness at the pet store. depending on what type of fish it is it could be a number of sickness If its a beta use this site for what your fish might have and then it will give some information to heal it.

The nitrates(excess waste) in the water will cause a sudden sickness in fish. The PH may also be either too high or too low.

Is it a new fish? Are it's fins clamped together? If so, then it is stressed out, give it a few days. You didn't give much information, so I cannot answer you with accuracy.

give it the pulp of a frozen pea (your fish might be constipated). if its poop looks funny, or is an unhealthy color, then it might just be. pH might also be a factor.

It's dying...put it out of its misery. Give it to the toilet.
