I was shocked at work by a little over 200 volts of dc current. It damaged muscle tissue in my arm and left a lingering pain up to my elbow. I am 27 weeks pregnant and worried about what effects this could have on my baby. All the hospital did was check the heart rate. Could there be any other damage they missed or should have checked for or is there anything that could come up later?

You should go back for a utrasound for your baby. If you suffered muscle damage and pain in your elbow, there's a good chance your baby was affected.

Things like this should never be taken lightly by the hospice staff, and I'm a little disturbed by their lack of care.

There is nothing they can DO about it. There can always be damage that they missed, but there is no way to check. According to the report I read, monitoring hasn't been show to have any value after electrical shock.

However the fact that the pain is limited to your arm and not other areas of the body, baby likely is just fine. If the electrical flow was limited to your arm, its just you who is injured.

Below is the most comprehensive thing I could find regarding electric shock. After reading this though, I would be so much more careful around electrical appliances!!

I was also shocked while i was pregnant with my son, and that is what they did with me also, and my son turned out alright, the only thing i would do is mention it everytime you see your obgyn and ask him if he could do a profile to make sure the baby is moving alright. Other than that if the doctors dont have any concern then you should be fine.

i'm sure that it could definitely harm the baby. but i would go see my ob if i were you, not the hospital, the hospital is not trained to handle pregnant women like the obstetricians are. but if your ob say the baby is ok then you and your baby should be fine. good luck
