I always wonder why people think this? Kids get fat because of diet and lack of exercise. Which I think it's more the parents fault more then video games. What the VG let the kids play? Of course not. It's the parent that buy it, and let them play it for hours on end. Pretty sure there are more studies on the fact that parental involvement or lack of accounts for more violent natures then video games. But can't blame the damn parent... No that's just poor taste, blame the game!

PS. Parents... Get a Wii and have your kids exercise their fat self.

Yes, no, not necessarily. The problems is, playing video games do not burn many calories, so the tendency is to gain weight. Not a good idea. It could be countered by intense activity, but one must be careful there, especialy if the child is already overweight. As to the violence, the tendency is for humans to copy the behavior that they witness. Back in the 60's the liberals said that reading newspaper articles, watching TV shows about violence did not make children violent, but so many studies proved that violence begets violence. Just witness the Virginia Tech violence; immediately there were acts of violence all across the country, includinng here.
So, the answer is: not necessarily, but the tendency is towards becoming overweight and or violent.

video games do not make kids anything. It may be a factor in both of those, but the reason that video games are blamed for these things are because of the parents. The parents are the main problem. They may not pay attention to the child. The parents might feed them bad things or fight in front of them. The video games do encourage not exercising and maybe lends ideas to children who have been scarred during their childhood in some way to make them want to be violent.

Neither, unless the parents allow it. My husband is a HUGE video game player, and he's not fat, and FAR from violent.

violent maybe, depends what kind of games. and fat, also maybe. if kids are spending too much time indoors, chances are that they are also eating more food and less time outside playing or exercising.

i don't think you can blame it on video games, its all about the communication between kids and their parents, and the attention parents bring to their kids.
