ok on gimp i know how to make a picture black and white but if you want to make a part of the picture color and the rest black and white what do you do??? please dont tell me to download tutorials...

Right click on the picture, on the menu click on image, click on mode, click greyscale.. poof instant black and white.

Once in grey you can change the mode back to RGB and recolor what ever part you want in whatever color.

Or just read the help file. (just kidding) :)

Guessing GIMP has tools like Photoshop: make a second layer on top of the original color image. desaturate that layer, removing the color. use the erase tool on the desaturated layer to uncover the areas you want colored. you may want to play with the size and intensity of the eraser brush.
merge the layers and save with a different file name so you still have your original.
