I think that the citizens of this country ought to do something on their own. Our president is an oil man you know and he's just sitting back and raking in the bucks because of the price gouging on gas that we are suffering at the hands of the big oil companies. What we can do is buy vehicles that are the most economical on gas consumption. Everyone seems to need to be driving around at 75mph or more in these stupid gas guzzling SUVs (at least it seems that way in Jersey). I think we need to get responsible really fast and make any improvements we can to our houses that will keep them more energy efficient. Believe it or not you don't have to spend thousands of dollars doing that either. Get on the internet and find websites that give tips on how to do things that will cost you less in the long run. If we want the Earth to be able to sustain the lives our our grandchildren's grandchildren we need to stop mucking around wasting precious resources, get motivated and get going on alternatives to the wasteful way we live right now. Start a letter writing campaign to your Senators & Congressmen that you want to see more use being made of bio-fuels made from both corn and soy plants.
Use fewer plastics and don't buy anything that you only use once and throw away. Don't use paper napkins, plates, towels. Use cloth napkins and rags both can be laundered and re-used. Wake up folks this is not a drill this is the real thing and we work together to clean things up and be responsible about how we use what is available to us or we all go down the drain together. Unless of course you want to live on another planet somewhere.

Yes, repeal the taxes on gas, or at least cut them substantially. (Especially in states where it's very high.) Also, cut back on the number of different gasoline "blends" that are needed in various parts of the country. Then, in the meantime, they could allow more refineries to be built, allow exploration/drilling in Alaska's Arctic National Wildlife Refuge as well as throughout the lower 48, and let the free market sort out other alternative energy options.

For a really extreme solution, they could nuke India and China, since that's where the growing demand for gasoline is... but I wouldn't recommend that.

At least they should reduce them. Taxes are 50% of the cost in the USA so there is room for manipulation. The other option that was used in past wars (and I sure hope not!) is rationing. The long term answer is to defeat radical Islam. The long term fix is to develop fuels that can be made cheaper even when gas prices drop again that doesn't have severe side effects (only real alternate source in USA is corn and use of a food/feed crop for fuel means severely higher costs for corn and meat).

The easy way would be for the government to step in and say,'enough'. But, what would be the next thing they would try to control. Many people accuse the president for the high prices but, if you look back, gas companies have the right to raise prices without restrictions due to high demand. So, the answer would be,,,,,we the people have to cut back on the usage. And that is the hard thing to do. Government needs to stay out of as much of our business as possible. We need to be better at lessening our dependency on oil as consumers. If we cut back, prices come down. It's as simple as that. God bless you to and have a great week.

Be honest with the public. Tell why the increase. Tell when prices will decrease. And keep the answer simple. No double talk. Give an 1-800 number to answer these questions. And what are the Oil Companies doing to develop alternative fuels.

High gas PriZes?? Yep, Oil company at work again. Jackpot. Congress will do nothing except push papers. If auto makers would produce cars that get 100 MPG, then the oil companies would start negotiations. Buy a diesel car now that diesel is cheaper than gasoline.

why is everything a government issue? If you want to make it a real government issue, they need to tell the environmentalists to take a hike and open up the ANWAR. Then build some new refineries. can't do any of that because the do-gooders squawk to much. guess we will just have to live with it.

Nothing - as it has provided the incentives for change to occur in industry- making bio-fuels and research cost competitive - and getting people to make changes in their consumption patterns to promote more efficient car/ truck and other means transport - which the pain in the short term will provide long term gain in the US

1. Stop blocking any and all attempts to build new refineries in the US.

2. Stop blocking any and all attempts to explore and develop US oil fields.

3. Stop blocking any and all development of other forms of energy the US can field on its own.

In other words, tell the enviro-whackos and the Kennedys to take a hike and shut up!

Prizes? That's a Freudian slip if I've ever heard one. They sure are "prizes" for the government and oil companies. There isn't anything they can do except stop being in bed with OPEC. Find other resources so we don't have to depend on them for our oil.
