I prefer polyester for pants/shorts and cotton for tee-shirts. And you?

Oh, cotton by far. I hate the feel of some polyester. I don't mind a poly-cotton blend that is more cotton than poly (just because it is more wash and wear.) But on the whole, cotton breathes better and the body doesn't feel trapped in a natural fabric. If you sweat it is more likely to absorb it and it won't plaster against your skin the way that poly will. It breathes.

Cotton is much more comfortable but polyester washers better and doesn't shrink!
