He recently received a progress report where his average has come up but the semester has not ended. He has four weeks.

Doing well in school is MORE IMPORTANT than a girlfriend.

Wait until his spring term grades are in your hot little hands and then decide.

I am a former teacher who has seen way too many bright kids get hopelessly distracted by teen romances. And their grades have suffered for it!

Hold your ground. If he wants to get back together with his girlfriend he can WAIT.

And considering how fickle and fluid teen romances are, the girl may have moved on anyway. And your son, once free to date again may look at her and go, "what was I thinking" and move on himself.

I won't judge your parenting methods, but as a father myself I WILL say that I would have done it differently. Your son most likely resents Dad starting and ending his romantic relationships, but grades are certainly important. Girlfriends can definately eat up a lot of time. If his grades are poor that is most likely time he should be using for study. What I would do is really not all that much different from what you did. I would really just change the approach slightly. Don't end the relationship. I think that is an approach that will inevitably lead to serious and unessesary conflict. Instead just say you can't go see your girl friend. You can't go on dates, you can't talk to her on the phone or text message until the grades come up. She's still his girlfriend, but he is required to take care of business before he can see her.

I would encourage him and let him know that you have notice the good progress he's been making and that you are proud of him and his efforts. Let him know that he has to keep up the good work though and that he can't continue seeing the girl until he finishes out the semester with good grades. It sounds like you are on the right track with your son so far! :)

I think that he should date if he wants. but there should be some rules, like if she is the reason that he is not getting good grades there should be like get homework done before date and done well and you have to check over it before he can. It sounds little kidish, but that would work for me if I had to do that.

have him finish the semester first. or tell him, if you don't make your grades high you can't meet that girl EVER. motivate him. you are his father and he is ONLY your son. You should make him follow you. You have the right as a parent.

Let him... just make a condition if he passes he dates her gf and if he fails vice versa maybe he will take his gf as a inspiration in studying.

Looks like Dad needs a little work on his spelling. Do to poor grades is incorrect. It is "Due to poor grades".
