Light comes is delivered to the earth in different wavelengths. Blue being the shortest, red being the longest. When light enters the earths atmosphere during the day, the shorter wavelengths are scattered by particles in the atmosphere. This is how we see the light. When the sun is near the horizon, it passes through more of the atmosphere and the larger particles are then also scattered, causing us to see the red/orange/pink colours we see late in the day or early morning

I believe it's blue due to the fact that electromagnetic radiation bounces light off of molecules. A prism effect takes place. When the light hits the molecules, it gives off a certain color, which would be blue in this case. Check out the source. Hope that helps you!

Luckily, I just read about this in a science book!

The atmosphere disperses the other colors of light coming from the sun so the only color we see is blue.
