I bought a male beta yesterday and he's very active. he swims around like crazy and seems to want to get out of the bowl. He gets tired and goes sit at the bottem but after a while he's doing it again. i'm afraid he's too exceited and i've read they can get a heartattack from that. It's staning on a glass surface, on mirror around, full of potted plants. what's bothering it or is it normal? it also doesn't eat but seems to want to. it goes up to the pellet, sniffs and than goes away. I got it yesterday and the trip home took and hour. does that have something to say?

i don't think he sees his reflection. he doesn't flare up like my other one did when he looked in the mirror. he just seems to swim against the walls of the bowl trying to get beyond. unless he's fond of plants. :P and the glass table is underneath. he'd be swimming around underneath if that was the case.

You should get your betta a bigger tank, 2.5 - 10 gallons big. With the bigger tanks, you could put live plants in for more hiding places. I think having a bigger tank would really help your Betta. Try to get a tank with cover but with holes.

Obviously he wants to get out because a bowl is a foul place to put a fish in. You got to have a tank of 7 - 8 gallons for it to be happy

If you could find some clumps of Java Moss, or really any kind of moss, you can just plop it in there and try and spread the fronds out to create little shady patches, you may want to choose your 10 best fronds and use kite string or fishing line to tie it to a small rock or something. (make sure the rock is very clean, boil it but don't use any chemical cleaners.)

The mirror is the problem. He sees his reflection and wants to fight it. Since the glass is blocking his way, he can't get through to the "other fish", so he tries to jump out to attack the other fish. I would suggest removing the mirrors.

Could be reflection, or the size of bowl? Who knows. It will jump out of the bowl if it can. They jump pretty good for a fish. Make sure it can't get out. It will probably settle down after it gets acclimated to new surroundings. Good Luck..><>:)

It's the glass and mirror that's bothering him. If he can see his reflection at all he will think it's another betta in his territory. Remove those and give him a day to settle in and he should start eating.

Is there a way to see his own reflection? If so, he's getting upset.

get him a bigger tank. they may can survive in small amounts of water, but the space would be appreciated. try a heater as well.

my betta is red and acts like he's on cr*ck sometimes. i cut his light off and make him rest.
