1) 4a/5 -7/5 = -3/5
multiply everything by 5 to get rid of the fraction
5(4a/5- 7/5)= 5(-3/5)
4a-7=-3
4a=7-3
4a=4
divide both sides by 4
a=1

2) 4w+5= 20-w
collect like terms
4w+w=20-5
5w=15
divide both sides by 5
w= 3

For the first one you want to clear the denominators, so you have to multiply through by 5:
(4a/5) * 5 - (7/5) * 5 = (-3/5) * 5
when you do this, all of the denominators will cancel out and you will be left with no fractions.
4a - 7 = -3
4a = 4
a = 1

For the second one, you just add w to both sides and subtract 5 from both sides:
4w + 5 + w - 5 = 20 - w + w - 5
5w = 15
w = 3

For the first problem: 4a/5-7/5=-3/5
You can simply multiply both sides by 5 so that you get: 4a - 7 = -3 then solve for a to be 1.

For the second problem add w: 5w+5=20
then subtract 5: 5w = 20
then divide by 5: w = 4

4a/5-7/5=-3/5 multiply both sides by 5
4a-7=3 add 7 to each side
4a=10 divide both sides by 4
a=10/4=5/2=2.5

4w+5=20-w add w to each side
5w+5=20 subtract 5 from each side
5w=15 divide both sides by 5
w=3

4a/5-7/5=-3/5
4a/5 = -3/5 + 7/5
4a/5 = 4/5
4a = 4
a = 4/4
a = 1
><
4w+5=20-w
4w + w = 20 - 5
5w = 15
w = 15/5
w = 3
