The four cylinder versions of the Fiero were garbage -- constant problems with weak engines and horrible overheating. If it has been overhauled then you can dodge many cooling problems by simply having a coolant fill cap installed in the upper radiator hose in the engine compartment. Pontiac (for whatever reason) placed the fill cap on the radiator, which is lower than the top of the engine. If you don't elevate the nose of the car higher than the engine when you add coolant then you never get rid of all the air trapped inside the cooling system. Fieros blew up engines by the thousands in the eighties due to extreme overheating. The addition of the extra fill cap eliminates the problem. Adding an external oil cooler will add years to the life of the engine, V6 or 4 as the oil pans on the Fieros are small. There are millions of aftermarket parts and upgrades available for Fieros including body kits that transform the car into a Ferrari or Lambroghini look alike.
Have fun!

You are not wrong about that, they are cute. However unless you are buying one that has been totally redone I would avoid it. The engines on all the years were known for doing NOTHING but breaking down.

Now if you plan on fixing it up you'll find there are a tone of Fiero Car Clubs on the web (cause they are SOOOO cute).

There were problems with fires. I don't recall exactly what the problem was. Do some research. I had a friend who had one that caught fire and his insurance adjuster told him it was common. They are cute but not safe.
The Toyota MR2 has the same shape and was safer. Another really cute tiny car like those is the Honda Del Sol. Good luck with your search. :)

the fiero had problems with the oil pump, when you make a sharp turn the oil pump ran dry and starved the engine for oil and thus cooked the engine.

If it is in good shape and runs good then you will probably like the car. They had good pick up, good speed, and handle okay. The are small (I am 6'2) but I was still able to get into the one that I would drive from time to time.
