No it doesn't, nor is it really intended to. Such legislation is just a way for politicians to be able to tell voters "Look, I did SOMETHING." before the next election.

My answer too that Is no, because even In prisons you can't prevent murder and mayhem when weapons are man made by Inmates proving the fact that they don't need guns too causes murder and mayhem and its sort of a gun free zone.

Only to the bad guys!! Crooks (including murderers), by definition, don't obey laws. So how's that going to help the good guys? You can't legislate character, and legislation that forbids the possession of firearms is going to be about as helpful as legislation that forbids the possession of drugs. Have a nice day.

Yes...the thing people forget about guns are that alot of the people who kill others with guns....(the scorned wife...the abusive husband....the fired employee...so on) were all non criminals until they killed someone. Many gun advocates seem to think that all gun crimes are committed by hardened criminals and this is not true...just as VP Cheney.
In any event the restriction of guns in any area serves as a deterance....even if it doesn't deter everyone...there is no way to deter everyone...the imposition of a gun free zone will deter some Law abiding citizens who will then become criminals in the right situation.
