I wanted to know which fabric markers are best and why should I use them?

I wanted to design my shoes because I want to customize them and maybe also some shirts. Why shouldn't I just use a sharpie? I tried sharpies before, but colors don't really stay and are hard to really smoothly draw with....are fabric markers better? Which ones?

All fabric markers are good. I've never tried any that I didn't like. Rub a Dub laundry markers are the best, but the colors are limited.
