When my four year old nephew asked me that same question, I told him they were for decoration.

If you are serious about the answer, then take the trouble to look within deep enough. No human is 'completely' a man or woman ! The manifest form is just due to a very marginal difference within ... Some thing like, a man is 55 % man & rest a woman, .. woman around 55 % woman and rest man...
You can even notice people manifest mannerisms, characteristics of opposite sex under certain situations, that would surprise others & themselves.
Eastern philosphies have emphasised this in their various narratives, to enable a person to understand self & evolve. Even a Godly form is depicted as half man/woman ( "ArdhanAreeswar "... a form of "Shiva").

all fun answers, but men have nipples because all embryos are female when they begin to develop. it's not until the hormones come in later that make a boy a boy, but by that point, the nipps are already there to be fun little play things to be pinched.
