I'm always hearing about how hard it is to get a good job in the Journalism field, and that the competition just keeps increasing. Now, if I do decide to go into Journalism, I wouldn't actually start working for another 8-10 years. Using that time frame, will it only become harder for me to get a job as a Journalist.

I would also love to major (maybe minor if Journalism looks up) in English Lit. However, I have no idea what to go into if I did. Any ideas with that? Maybe a teacher or some writer?

Just need some thoughts.

It's not that hard to get a journalism job. Get a part time job with a weekly newspaper for experience. Then move up to a full time small city newspaper. People without degrees get hired all the time.

Jornalism is an exciting career. The big drawback is that the pay is lousy.

If you wish to go into journalism it is better to have a media/journalist degree and depending on what area you are interested in, do some politics, history and economics during your degree. Certainly, if you wish to work as a "foreign correspondent" you would need to have a good idea of all fields.
While studying, try to work on a student newspaper/radio station or TV station, then later start working on a local newspaper then start work on a larger daily until you feel confident enough to apply for a position on a national daily paper, radio station or TV station. It takes a while, but the enjoyment is always there with being a newsman.

You've answered your own question- competition, time to get a degree, and maybe pay.

I'd recommend you stop by your school's career center and take some tests to see what kind of jobs you'd be qualified for.

how about folklore or perhaps set up a news paper which discusses folklore and accepts new ideas to add to it and also has a section on mythology and perhaps a satire on the mythology of the old west a story which creates new mythological dangers for example a creature which diguises itself as a city of gold which lives in the area which would be called california as well as in south america and eats greedy europeans who hear of cities of gold
