No. Asking about any legal provision any where in no way make the asker liable for any offence for which he ask. Under the Criminal Procedure Code, 1973 in India, no investigation regarding any offence can be started on this reason only that a person asked the definition of any offence let it be theft or any offence as provided under the Indian Penal Code, 1860. The process of any investigation starts only on information of any offence that has been committed, such an information is known as first information report or F.I.R. which the SHO of the police station note when any person complaints about the offence been committed. In the F.I.R. itself the person giving this information is supposed to give as much details about the offence, suspects, time, date & place with regards to the offence, even he/she mentions the name of witnesses who were present at the place & at the time when the offence was committed, only based on this information the investigation of police starts not on the basis of any question being asked on such forums such as Yahoo answers, Indian Police is already over worked with the work of controlling law & order of the city, state & country they don't have so much time & man power to go through each & every question being asked here in Yahoo answers & start investigation just for the sake that a question relates to the definition of any offence. To know the not only the definition of any offence but the whole legal statute applicable to all citizens of the country is your constitutional & legal right, rather ignorance of law is no defense you can pray in any case as it is very clearly provided in the Indian legal system itself.

Asking for a definition of theft should not by itself make the asker a suspect of having been involved in that kind or any kind of crime.
Asking about something does not by itself implies anything except curiosity.

Well you're obviously guilty lol anyway I think you already know the answer to this one.......

It is totally up to the discretion of whatever agency wanting to pursue it....just like idiots on you tube that have been busted because of detectives deciding to even use youtube in the first place...get it?

Normally the law official would be looking for a specific person so I don't think you have anything to worry about...I mean, whoever "somebody" is....

Why are you 'presuming' that someone will suspect someone a thief if one asks for the definition of theft ? If there is nothing 'hidden' behind your question, then rest in peace. Do not worry, be happy and ask questions to enrich your knowledge as well as of others.
