I am looking for a spy/adware blocker that a; really works, b; is really free and c; isn't a blind leader to other products. I use Norton (yawn...) regularly but now seem to have picked something up that when I go into Google, click on one of the many 'matches' and instead I get something completely different, ususlly a top 100 of something or other. I guess I could do with something to give my system a good 'clean up' too? (I do use Window washer). Any help gratefully received, Thanks.

There are plenty of free spyware removers available. Get one of those before you throw down your hard earned money to buy one. Paying for a spyware remover should be a last resort with so many good free removers on the market. A lot of times, a free package will do the job with you having to come out of pocket.

You can find some more information on spyware and spyware removers, as well as some free spyware remover downloads on this page:

Google has a good one. It has programs like Adobe, Virus Protection, Spyware and many more. Click on the link below and you will see it on the right side, toward the top. It will take you to Google’s Free Software site. Someone told me about it….Really cool!

If your browser is being hijacked by another process then you MUST get hold of HijackThis.

Run a scan and check the BHO (Browser Help object) section in particualr and put a check mark next to any suspicious process and click on the Fix Selected Items button.

Ad aware or spybot are my choices. DO NOT just download something. MANY "antispyware" products re themselves spyware. A good place to check is spywarewarriors.com, the have a complete list of rogue software.
