France never entered WWII, Germany invaded France without cause and France had no choice but to fight or lose their country. If the USA had not helped France they would definitely have lost the war.

France and Great Britain warned Hitler in the summer of 1939 that they will stand in defense of Poland, even by declaring war, if Hitler invaded the country. When Hitler invaded Poland, France, and Englang, declared war. Hitler did not invade France until after the Winter of 1939-1940. The period when both German and French were facing each other without much shooting is called "the phoney war". Which in a short time it will not be "phoney" nor laughable. But global and deadly.

Uh ? They were attacked. France didn't have much choice in the matter what was worse was that French Diplomacy failed. Hitler was an idiot but if a master idiot manipulator had peed in his ear it would have been possible to spare France a second brutal war within fifty years. Hitler attacked France as punishment for World War One and especially for the nasty treatment France had dished out along with the Treaty of Versailles. Attacking France was a Strategic Blunder.

Peace...

France did not really enter WWII. It was invaded by Hitler. Well you could kind of say they were in WWII because G.B. and U.S. were basically superpowers and they backed France.

"Already during the France-Habsburg rivalry that started in the 16th century, France tried to find allies east of Austria, namely Poland. [...] With the rise of Prussia and later the German Empire, both France and Poland found a new common enemy."

"During the interwar period [the Franco-Polish Military Alliance] was one of the cornerstones of the French foreign policy. Near the end of that period, along with the Franco-British Alliance, it was the basis for creation of the Allies of World War II."

"Finally, a new alliance was signed in 1939. The so-called Kasprzycki-Gamelin Convention signed 1939-05-19 in Paris (named after the Polish Minister of War Affairs General Tadeusz Kasprzycki and the commander of the French Army Maurice Gamelin) obliged both countries to provide military help to each other in case of a war with Nazi Germany. In May Gamelin promised a "bold relief offensive" within three weeks of German's attack. Later staff talks and consultation between both armies' commands were also included in the treaty. Finally, it was enhanced with a political convention, signed in Paris on 1939-09-04."
