it depends if you love them as a friend or not.

ONLY if you do care for that person enough to love them. If you don't care for that person than don't. If they ask why, just tell them politly its not them, just you don't make it a habit of telling people you love them all the time. To know if you do, do they feel like family to you? Would you be hurt if they were to go away? If you answered yes, than you do love them. But if your casual with them, and it doesn't matter if your around them, or friends with them or not. Than no you don't love them and there will be no need to say so.
But there's nothing wrong with it, I tell my closest friends I love them all the time. Cuase i do. just cause you love someone doesn't mean you want to be intimate/date them.

Well, it depends. If its like your girl best friend, of course you should say it back because you probably love her as a friend. If its a boy and he's very close with you, do the same. If you don't want them to think something else, then don't say it back.

If I love somebody I tell them... there are different types and depths of love... I love my children with a greater love than I love my friends but I still love my friends a great deal... its always nice to hear too.

Yeah. The Bible speaks of several types of love. There is brotherly love, friendship love, romantic love, family love, and Agape (God's love). I tell lots of people I love them, and they all know what way I mean it. It's something people need to be reminded of. That someone cares about them.

nope - say "Thank you" unloess you absolutely feel the same. I know that sounds weird but a thank you is better than telling someone else you love themwhen you really dont.

When FRIENDS say "I love you" you say it back. Don't take it in a romantic way because you're just friends, nothing else.
