Love is an inexplicable yearning for another. This yearning can easily be defined from lust. While one can bask in the after glow of lust. Love is more specific and does not end at in a climax .

Many of us have been in many relationships and never known love. The comfort in belonging to another forsaking all others.

when love is equally returned, there is no fear. This is only one of the many kinds of love.

It is something that nature brings to the unfortunate ones. Those with good control of the language will write books about it. Some will go into permanent depression because of it. Some will become elated and do stupid stuff because of it. Some will sit around and dream about it. Some will kill and some will commit suicide because of it. And you sir, want it defined? hahahahahaha

In an effort to raise the level of answer I offer the answer of the great theologian and Philosopher Paul Tillich who defined love as "desire for union". He wrote a small book on the subject defending his answer. And In my opinion, rather successfully. He later wrote books on other qualities such as justice and mercy which, again in my opinion, were less successful.

Love is Accepting.
Acceptance is labeling someone as "okay" and having no particular desire to change them. Who they are is perfectly fine with you. You pose no condition on whether you will love them or not. This is call unconditional love. When your love IS conditional, the moment they step outside your set of conditions, love evaporates.

Love is Appreciating.
Appreciation is one step beyond acceptance. Its when your focus is on what you like about another. We look at them and feel this sweeping appreciation for who they are, their joy, their insights, their humor, their companionship, etc. When someone says they are "in love" with another, they mean their appreciation is so enormous for this person that it consumes their every thought.

Love is Wanting Another to Feel Good.
We want those we love to be happy, safe, healthy, and fulfilled. We want them to feel good in all ways, physically, mentally and emotionally.
