A few years ago I bought out of a clearance bin, the electronic pest controllers that you plug into an outlet. They send a low electric vibration through the wiring in the wall.

After we had new carpeting laid, I did not want to spray. These have worked extremely well. In the last couple of years I saw 1 spider and 1 palmetto bug (the door had been open). We live in Florida and the bugs never die here.

They are expensive to start with, about $20.00 for three. We have 6 in our house of about 3500 square feet. But they work amazingly well. You NEVER see bugs, they just are discouraged from ever coming in due to the vibration in the walls.

Until I saw these explained one day on a tv show I truly did not even understand how they work. But I personally am thrilled with them. No poisons at all.

Home Depot has them on the pesticide aisle.

in Britain there are Two main typs of ants, black and Red both hate being in water. The elderly lady living next to me used to make up a solution of salt with hot water and pour it over the ant trails, where they walk regularly. It used to make me laugh as she flooded my kitchen floor twice when she poured the solution down the outside wall of my kitchen. The saline solution will make the dog/cat sick if they get to it before it drains away but nothing more than that.
