I can't speak for the official party platform but in general Democrats are adverse to the death penaty - claiming it is not constitutionally correct (cruel and unusual). Republicans have a two tier opinion of the matter. As conservatives, they adhere to the 10th Amendment (power to the states) so they would argue the death penalty should be argued in the context of the will of the people in the confinds of their own state. As such, they generally do not believe that a "tit-for-tat" punishment qualifies as cruel and unusual as the founders likely would have intended.

Republicans believe in the Bible version, eye for an eye. They believe in the death penalty. Democrats believe that child molesters and killers should go to therapy, then be released into the public so they can vote for them

are you talking about sudden death? Or the regular kind that drags on even when the needle is injected and the drugs s e e p s l o w l y to the appointed target, the scumbag who killed another person for whatever reason?..except when later blood samples proves ohmygosh there was an error made!! in that court, parties who were primary to the error, should all face the same consequences--they killed an innocent man they are indeed murderers!! If there was a fool proof way to make sure you were executing the actual perpetrator, then I am all for it...but if an innocent man gets killed today, why not you or me tomorrow?

The death penalty is not a political issue. Neither party includes it in their platforms. Some politician of both parties favor and some politicians of both parties oppose the death penalty.

liberals generally oppose the death penalty, because it is not politically correct!
Conservatives generally support it because it has show to be an effective deterrent and is more cost effective( it costs less to put a criminal to death, than to feed, house, clothe, and educate him for life). the prison system is over-crowded so the gov't releases criminals to make room for more, then those who are released (generally repeat their crime). If we would stop giving life sentences and put lifers to death the nation would save millions (if not billions) every year and the the criminals would start to fear the law as much as they fear an ARMED CITIZEN!!!!
