Royal families do not HAVE to use certain names.
But I think that they are steeped in tradition and passing a name form generation to generation is out of respect and considered proper.
\I mean, i could not imagine a King Peyton of England.
I think it is a toast to tradition and an honor to their family origins

Actually, many of the monarchs known as "King Blah V" weren't actually named "Blah" - for example, King George VI's actual name was Albert. They can take whatever name they want when the ascend the throne.
Be that as it may, royals do tend to name their children after previous monarchs or members of the royal family. There is no law or rule limiting names, however - for example, Prince Andrew has a first name that has never been held by a British King, and neither Charles nor William nor Henry (Prince Harry's actual first name) has been used for several hundred years.

There is no such requirement for Royal first names at present;Queen Victoria once wanted all male heirs to bear the name of her late husband,Albert, but that is no longer a requirement. The given names chosen are totally up to the parents;they may have it in mind to honor certain Royals of the past when they choose names, but it is not necessary for them to do so.

It's no different than children who are named after their grandparents and great grandparents. Certain names are often repeated in families.
In the case of royals, their official name may, or may not, be what they are actually called. Most royals have at least 4 names, so they often are called something completely different from the dynastic name (George VI's name was Albert and he was called "Bertie" by his family).

Yes. When I was born, my parents received an email from Her Majesty The Queen with a list of names. This is how I got the Royal name Doug.

The only royal family i know that has a "tradition" of naming first born sons certain family names, is Denmark. They name the boy either Fredrick or Christian.
The rest of the families just have names that have been in their families for years and just recycle them.

The royal family rules in a Christian name (Bible name or saint's name). When the engagement first occurred, it was decided that if she became Queen, Diana Spencer would use her middle name, Frances, which is a Christian name. "Diana" is a Greek, and therefore pagan, name.
At least, in the opinion of the royal family.

I don't think there is a list but every family tends to re-use the same names over the course of a few generations, don't they? I would bet that if you checked your own family tree the same names will crop up regularly.

There are not certain first names that "must" be used, it's just a matter of family tradition, which is common even outside of royalty.
